A Shared Journey

My approach to counseling is based on a person-centered, humanistic foundation. I believe that counseling is a shared journey between counselor and client, with the counselor acting as a guide and providing a safe and nurturing environment for the client to examine their feeling, thinking, and behavior patterns through a process of genuine dialogue with the counselor. I believe that the most important tool that I use in helping clients to reach their goals is the relationship that I develop with them.

Individual & Family Counseling

All counseling involves the process of change. Carl Rogers, a pioneer in the field of psychotherapy, stated, "Therapy is a unique and dynamic process, different for each individual". While I agree with that statement, I also believe there are certain commonalties contained within a healthy and positive therapeutic relationship.

Couples Counseling

Relationships are a catalyst for growth. Most couples bring "unfinished business" into their relationships. Unfinished business is another way of describing unexpressed feelings of anxiety, grief, abandonment, resentment, etc.

Grief & Loss Counseling

Grief counseling aims to help people cope with grief and mourning following the death of loved ones, or with major life changes that trigger feelings of grief (e.g., divorce, or job loss). Grief counselors know that one can expect a wide range of emotion and behavior associated with grief.

Addiction Counseling

Addiction counseling fosters the application of information obtained from research in an effort to appropriately diagnose, evaluate, treat, and support clients dealing with addiction. Throughout the treatment process addiction counselors encourage behaviors that build wellness and emotional resilience to their physical, mental and emotional problems.
